·        Eye Laser Vision Correction

LASIK (IDESIGN WAVEFRONT)

ILASIK is the combination of the state-of-the-art laser technology, Intralase Bladeless Laser, the custom-made Wavefront and the eye recognition system. ILASIK is completely custom-made. Everything is performed based on the personal visional quality of the patient. The technology used in the ILASIK method is extremely safe.

When patients who have undergone ILASIK treatment are examined, clinical studies performed after 1 year demonstrate the following:

·        More than 95% of all patients participating in the research study were able to pass their driving tests without eyeglasses or contact lenses.

·        98% of the patients with minor or major myopia and approximately 3/4 of all patients participating in the research study had a vision quality of 100% or better than that of pre-operation without wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses.

·        Patients with minor or major myopia were 4 times more satisfied with their night vision quality compared to the night vision that they had before the laser operation.

The first stage of the ILASIK method is the determination of characteristic features of your vision, based on the tests which also include the "Wavescan™ - Custom Made Treatment" technology. The Wavescan system plots a 3-dimensional map of your visual defects. Then with the custom-made treatment (Advanced CustomVue™) process, the custom-made treatment is designed using the digital information obtained from this map.

Wavefront

Wavefront involves sending a light beam to the eye and applying a laser treatment tailored for a specific person, after evaluating the image obtained from the retinal layer. This method is specifically preferred in patients with night vision problems or with dilated pupils, in order to avoid scattering, diffraction and haloing around light after laser. After evaluation with special Wavefront analyzing devices, the decision for surgery is made.

iDesign Wavefront

In laser treatment, customizing the treatment for each eye is key to successful results. iDesign advanced Wavefront-guided system allows each eye to be treated with custom-made treatments. Thus, the patients get rid of their eyeglasses and lenses and achieve an ultra-HD vision quality. With the Wavefront technology, 5 different measurements can be done in a short time. 5 different measurements that are normally done with automatic refractometer, keratometer, topography, aberrometer and pupillometer can be done with a single device. Custom-made treatments are offered using the data acquired. With the iDesign Wavefront technology, detailed corneal analysis can be done and the refractive errors can be identified up to the minute details. Thanks to the high-resolution sensor, the optical aberrations of the eye can be analyzed with a 5-times higher resolution. Better results and high patient satisfaction are achieved in laser treatments done by using the iDesign Wavefront technology.

Treatment Stages in
ILASIK

At the first stage, a personal vision profile is prepared by Wavescan technology.

Afterwards, a corneal incision is created by femtosecond, without using a blade. Finally, the vision can be corrected by ILASIK.

Data reflected from the beams sent to the eye is detected by a special camera. Such data is sent to the Laser and the intended operation is performed. One of the reasons for preferring a custom-made treatment (Advanced CustomVue™) is the ability to acquire an exact patient-specific three-dimensional visual map with the aid of Wavefront aberrometer.

During laser treatments, pointing into the intended spot of the eye by the device is of crucial importance.

Therefore, there should be a digital locking system (eye tracker) between the eye and the device.

In the Wavefront treatment, measuring is performed in the sitting position, while the operation takes place in the lying position. A minor rotational ocular movement may occur while in the lying position. The laser device recognizes the iris of the patient and detects even the smallest rotational ocular movements. Unlike other eye tracking systems, this technology is also capable of monitoring the rotational ocular movements of the eye around its own axis.

PRK / LASEK

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy), like Lasik, is a treatment method to correct refractive errors. Unlike Lasik, which is still the most commonly used technique, a thin layer (flap) is not created by incision in the cornea in the PRK method; instead, the laser is started directly from the external surface. A PRK surgery involves removing the outer thin live tissue called epithelium from the cornea and administering Excimer Laser on the tissue underneath. A clear, protective "bandage" contact lens is placed in the eye at the end of the operation to be worn for several days so that the cornea surface can heal more easily. Recovery of good vision takes longer than Lasik and may take 3-4 weeks. Pain and discomfort is felt for 2-4 days after the operation because healing of the epithelial tissue is completed in this period.

LASEK

Lasek involves lifting the eye's epithelial tissue using alcohol. The epithelium is replaced after the administration of laser. Highly reliable results are obtained by this two-surface method; however, some patients may experience burning, stinging and watering in the eyes for 2-3 days. Vision gets clear within 1 week to 10 days on average. With this treatment method, the final result may be achieved in the third month; however, patients can carry out their daily activities without the need for eyeglasses during this period of time.

Features of PRK and LASEK methods

·        They are recommended for patients whose corneal thickness is not suitable for Lasik surgery although they have low diopter values (myopia and astigmatism up to -3D).

·        As in the Lasik method, the eye is numbed by eye drops only.

·        The patient feels no pain during the operation.

·        A contact lens is placed to accelerate renewal of the epithelium and protect the eye, and it is removed by the doctor 3-4 days after the operation.

SMILE LASER / RELEX

The customized bladeless SMILE laser is an advanced laser technology method in myopia and astigmatism which enables treating myopia up to -10D and astigmatism up to -5D. It is the ideal treatment method for athletes and professionals who are at risk of being struck and exposed to pressure.

Properties of the SMILE Laser Method:

  • Treatment of myopia up to -10D and astigmatism up to -5D
  • Superior protection in corneal biomechanics
  • Suitable for thinner corneas
  • Convenience of incisionless operation with a closed surgery technique
  • Single-step surgery
  • Safe recovery
  • The fastest laser technology with a rate of 500 kHz
  • Most natural results

Stages of the SMILE Laser Treatment Method:

  • Using the Zeiss Visumax Femtosecond technology, a thin lenticule (disc of tissue) is created inside the eye's front layer (cornea) in a single step.
  • The surgeon removes the lenticule out of a 3.8 mm opening made on the cornea. There is no need to cut a flap.
  • The refractive error is corrected when the shape of the cornea is changed by removing the lenticule which has been created inside the eye. Since no flaps are created, corneal biomechanics are affected less compared to other laser surgeries. It is the SMILE technique which provides the strongest corneal biomechanics following a laser surgery.

PHAKIC LENS IMPLANTATION

·        Phakic intraocular lens implantation is a trusted treatment method which helps those whose eye structure is not suitable for laser treatment rid themselves of their glasses or lenses, and provides precise and reliable results in people with high myopia and hyperopia. At Contracted Hospital, phakic lens surgeries are performed by specialist doctors using the world's highest quality intraocular lenses.

·        Based on the principle of implanting an artificial, corrective lens inside the eye, this method is sometimes combined with Lasik surgery. Myopia from 7 to 25 diopters and hyperopia from 5 to 13 diopters can be corrected.

·        Who is eligible for phakic lenses?

·        Phakic lens surgery is suitable for people older than 18 who don't have glaucomaretinal disorders or cataract. The final decision as to whether a person is eligible for this treatment can be made after a detailed eye examination and examination of the corneal tissue through special analysis.

·        Technique of Phakic Lens Surgery

·        Phakic lens surgery lasts nearly 20 minutes for each eye and the patient feels nothing under anesthesia. A minimum of a 7-day interval is allowed between the operations of two eyes and the eye remains bandaged for only 1 day after the operation. The bandage is removed by the doctor the next day and the patient's vision becomes clear enough for them to resume their daily activities without wearing glasses or lenses.

·        The lens implanted in the eye is clear and made of a material which is compatible with ocular tissue, without causing any problems in its lifetime. These intraocular lenses cannot be seen from the outside after the surgery and the presence of the lens cannot be felt by the patient either.
